The Department of Orthopedics at the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, established in1957. serves as the key national clinical specialty and one of the first pilot units for the National Health Commission’s ERAS (Enhanced Recovery After Surgery) orthopedic program, and is home to 7 municipal-level medical centers,including Chongqing Municipal Orthopedic Quality Control Center. The Department boasts distinct features of Orthopedics, encompassing the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of sub-specialties within orthopedics. It also focuses on building a high-level scientific research base and a quality academic platform. It plays an active role in exploring the new medical technologies and leads developments in precision medicine fields such as digitalization, minimally invasive procedures and 3D printing, enjoying high reputation both at home and abroad. The Department has innovatively formed multidisciplinary collaborative ERAS teams in China and developed novel perioperative treatment strategies in orthopedics through research, resulting in the lovest global rates of patient mortality and complications. As key discipline supported by the Chongqing Municipal Science and Technology Commission and the Education Commission, the Department boasts 11 doctoral supervisors, 2l master’s supervisors, two national medical technology training bases in orthopedics, and three specialized disease training centers. lt undertakes training responsibilities four students at all levels, with many students winning gold and silver awards in various competitions, including the “Internet +" Competition. Additionally, the Department has continuously participated in the compilations of numerous national-level planning textbooks as the chief editor or associate editor. Currently, it stands as one of the largest clinical departments in the southwestern region of China, distinguished by its specialized features and possessing one of the strongest academic teams.
