The laboratory was established in April 2008, approved as “Chongqing Key Laboratory of Ophthalmology” by Chongqing Municipal Science and Technology Commission in December 2008, and renamed as “Chongqing Key Laboratory of Prevention and Treatment of Major Blinding Eye Diseases” in March 2024, focusing on the research on the occurrence mechanism and prevention of major blinding eye diseases. It mainly focuses on the mechanism of occurrence and prevention of major blinding eye diseases, focusing on the prevention and treatment of uveitis, keratoconus and ocular surface diseases, retina and optic nerve related eye diseases, and ocular regulation related diseases, and actively carries out technological innovations and transformation of the results, which have already reached the domestic advanced level in some fields, and are in the international forefront of the research on uveitis. The laboratory has published more than 400 high-quality SCI papers, undertaken the National Key Research and Development Program, the Ministry of Health Clinical Key Specialties, the National Natural Science Foundation of China Key Projects, major international cooperation projects, and other projects, with a total of more than 130 million yuan in research funding. He was awarded the Second Prize of National Scientific and Technological Progress (2017), the First Prize of China Medical Science and Technology Award (2012), the Outstanding Contribution to Science and Technology Award of Chongqing Municipality (2009), the First Prize of Chongqing Municipal Science and Technology Progress Award for three times (2010, 2014, and 2022), and the first “Chongqing Distinguished Talent Award” (2020), among other prizes. He has led the development of several industry diagnosis and treatment guidelines and expert consensus, and has been authorized more than 30 patents.
